Exhibition “Lviv Christmas Tree: From Ancient Times to the Present Day”
The Lviv Palace of Arts invites you to the opening of a unique Christmas and New Year exhibition, ‘The Lviv Christmas Tree: From Ancient Times to the Present,’ which will present the centuries-old history of one of the main symbols of the winter holidays.
The exhibition tells the story of how the tradition of the Lviv Christmas tree was formed, how decorations, ritual symbols and celebrations changed throughout different historical periods — from ancient customs to the present day.
Visitors will see:
· Christmas trees and winter ritual symbols dating back to pagan times;
· unique toys from the 18th–19th centuries;
· the first glass decorations and ornaments from Galician workshops;
· products from leading global factories and plants;
· favourite toys from childhood in the 1950s–1980s;
· rare archival photos and materials showing how Lviv residents celebrated more than 40 years ago.
The exhibition will also feature examples of Matsivka Christmas stars from the Nadsyannya region (now Poland, where Ukrainians lived until the resettlements of 1944-47).
